We had an interesting morning today. Audrey and I were doing our usual routine of bundling Audrey up to go to daycare. I sat her on the counter in our laundry room / entry way, which is in arm's length of the Brinks alarm pad. She reached for the alarm pad and before I could move her arm away, she pressed the fire emergency button. I THOUGHT I canceled it correctly. I waited a minute or two for Brinks to call and they didn't, so I figured all was well. Daycare is one mile away from our house. I was gone for less than ten minutes. My mom called when I was leaving the daycare to say that Brinks called her (both of our parents are our emergency contacts). I told her that it was a false alarm and she called them back and let them know.
Well, too late. I got home and our street was lined up with fire trucks and police cars. There were firefighters and policemen at our front door and they were about to break into the house. I left with all of the lights on and the TV on because I am only gone for a few minutes in the morning (I work from home most days this time of year). I was, to say the least, horrified and embarrassed. They were very nice and understanding, but I still felt awful.
In the meantime, Aaron's mom called because Brinks had called them also. After I got done giving my statement and all of the trucks and cars left, I called both of our parents and told them that we were fine. I called Aaron and let him know what happened. We both missed the calls from Brinks on our cell phones.
And, that was all before 7:30 am!! I will never set Audrey up on that counter again to get her all bundled up.
I emailed the fire chief and apologized a million times. He was also very understanding. I still feel like an idiot!
So there's your laugh for the day! I'm still trying to laugh about it. I'm sure I will someday!
