We welcomed our daughter Audrey on June 9th, 2007 at 10:20 AM. We had come to the hospital the night before because they were going to induce Anne the morning of the ninth. The doctor thought maybe Anne had something called Intrauterine Growth Restriction (you can look it up -- she ended up not having it). Anne starting laboring on her own throughout the night and at 7 AM Anne started to push. Anne pushed for two strong hours and then things kind of stalled out and Anne was pretty worn out. So we and the doctor decided a C-Section would be the best route to go.
The staff took Anne out of the room at 9:15 AM to prep her for surgery, leaving Aaron alone in the room to ponder life. At 10 AM they came and got Aaron to come in for the surgery. Anne was doing great -- we were getting really excited to meet our new baby!
At 10:20 AM we heard our first cry -- and life officially changed! They put Audrey under the incubator and cleaned her up. Aaron then cut the remaining portion of the umbilical cord to welcome her to the family. Then the nurse weighed Audrey. She tried to tip the scales -- but at 6 lbs. 5 oz. they weren't exactly tipping. She was 19.5" long. Aaron then sat down with Audrey and showed her to Anne who was still getting stiched up. We got to hang out for another 45 minutes while they patched up Anne. We then went to recovery room with Audrey.
Around 2 PM we were moved to our new room where we have been chilling out ever since. Grandpa and Grandma McNulty arrived that evening to meet their first grandchild! They were extremely excited -- and Audrey was too!
Day 2
The first night went well and we opened up the blinds so Audrey could see her first sunrise above Lake Michigan and Milwaukee. Grandpa and Grandma McNulty came in the morning before Grandpa Craig went back to Minnesota leaving Grandma Betsy behind to help out. Anne's boss Mary came down with her mother Elna to meet Audrey. Aaron's co-worker Kerry came with her daughter Jaimie to meet Audrey as well. It was great to have visitors to make the stay at the hospital seem a little shorter. Aaron decided to spend the night at home so he stayed at the hospital until Audrey went to sleep -- which for second night in the row was around 11:30. Audrey likes to sleep all day and then stay up late -- not unlike her father -- but now the father wants to sleep! Aaron has a good attitude about it though. They watched a few episodes of Myth Busters, so now Audrey has a little better perspective on urban legends.
Day 3
The night went well. Audrey let Anne sleep a little -- then Aaron came back early in the morning to help out. They are keeping an eye on Audrey for Jaundice. Her numbers are a little high, but the peditrician is not worried about it so everything should be fine. She doesn't look yellow at all, so the high numbers may have something to due with the bruising on her head from all the pushing before the c-section. We have had a parade of doctors, nurses, specialists and photographers through the room today -- all telling us something new, having us sign things and checking up on us! Everyone tells Anne to get some sleep -- but then the next one comes in. The people here are all great but it will be nice to get home!
